In 1755 in Bordeaux, France, Marie Brizard helped Thomas, a sailor from the West Indies, survive a high fever. In return, he gave her the secret recipe of an anise-flavored liqueur, which required 11 plants, spices and fruits to make, and had an extremely refreshing and aromatic feeling. This is how Marie Brizard Anissete was born, the first liqueur of the Marie Brizard & Roger company. In 1765 new liqueurs were added to the production, such as Parfait Amour, Fine Orange, Cinnama Liqueur and Coffee Liqueur, and the first exports to Martinique and Santo Domingo began. Today, Marie Brizard liqueurs are exported to 120 countries, with sales of over 200 million bottles worldwide.
