Tasting Characteristics

The nose has sweet and nutty aromas, with notes of honey, chocolate, brown sugar and soft smoke. In the mouth it is very sweet and soft, with flavours of brown sugar and molasses. Its finish is rich with moderate duration and hints of smoke.

The process

Concentrated virgin cane "honey" is used for Zacapa rum and not molasses. Zacapa 23 is aged in three different types of casks (whiskey, sherry and wine) with a unique process called "Sistema Solera", and is a blend of aged rum aged 6 to 23 years. The secret of Zacapa is the slow aging process that takes place at high altitudes, in the cold air of the highlands - it is aged above the clouds, as we like to say. It tastes so wonderful that it is the first rum to be accepted into the International Hall of Fame.
