Tasting Characteristics

On the nose, the initial spicy sensation is followed by hints of red wine. These give way to delicious notes of nuts, before the light oak presence of casks appears. Intense flavour of spices and a round, creamy body, with a lively breeze of chocolate. It is accompanied by dried fruits and nuts, which add a clear touch of praline to the taste. The long finish leaves hints of citrus fruits, chocolate, raisins and macaroons.

The process

Like the original Tullamore D.E.W., Tullamore D.E.W. 12 Year Old Special Reserve is a blend, that combines three different types of Irish whiskey, distilled three times. It contains, however, a high percentage of distillate derived from traditional pot still, as well as a high percentage of malt whiskey. All mature in a combination of ex-sherry and bourbon barrels, for 12 to 15 years.
